Flow Fest

Flow, relax, and enjoy a day full of yoga, wine, kombucha, and more at the inaugural Flow Fest; blending elements of wellness and mindfulness with a natural, outdoor setting. In addition to the Wild Vine Trail Race and DYNOMITE Bouldering Competition, a wide variety of yoga practices, meditations, and workshops will be held throughout the U.S. National Whitewater Center facility.

As with all USNWC Festivals, Flow Fest is open to the public and does not require tickets. Majority of the practices and workshops are free to participate in, however a select few have spatial limitations or registration requirements. See each activity for specific details.

Wine Sampling Information:

Enjoy a selection of 20 different wines during Flow Fest Wine Sampling from 3:00pm – 7:00pm at the Big Drop tents. Wineries include Biltmore WinesPresqu’ileBirichinoLobetiaEntwineWilliam Hill EstateProphecyFolktale WineryCasas Del BosqueVento Di Mare, and Blossom Brothers.

MUSIC:

Complete your day of yoga and wellness with live music from the River Jam stage, featuring performances by David Huckfelt at 7:00pm and headliner Trampled by Turtles at 9:00pm. Trampled by Turtles is a bluegrass band from Duluth, Minnesota, known for a fast, frenetic sound that owes as much to rock & roll as bluegrass who have reached the top of Billboard charts and performed at major festivals including Coachella and Lollapalooza.

TERRACE ACCESS:

Join us at Terrace Access for a premiere view of the music and festivities. Terrace Access opens at 5:00pm and goes until 10:00pm, offering food, private cash bar, indoor and outdoor seating, restrooms, and exclusive viewing area.

Hike and Yoga

This gentle Slow Flow practice along with a bonus mindful meditation will leave you feeling grounded, ready to take on your day fully focused and with a positive attitude. This hike will be around 2 - 2.5 miles roundtrip and a duration of 1.5 - 2.0 hours. Participants will need to bring their own yoga mat and a way to carry or backpack the mat during the hike.
Lisa’s desire for hiking and yoga stem from spending time in the foothills of North Carolina at different stages in her life. In 2010 she obtained her 220-hour Certified Yoga Alliance training in the Kunga Teacher Training & Lifestyle Immersion at the Wilmington Yoga Center in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Soundbowl/Meditation Class

Move through your body with a gentle morning flow as Ashlyn Miller guides you through a moving meditation, connecting each breath to movement. As you begin to create different shapes with your body while intentionally breathing, old energy can be released and new space created allowing you to open up and tune in to the key of Manifestation as Grant Hill weaves a harmonic tapestry of sacred sound, layering handpan, crystal singing bowls, Native American flute and more, intentionally tuned to activate and align the heart and throat chakras.
Ashlyn is a passionate yoga instructor who fell in love with the practice about five years ago as a means to calm the mind and challenge the body, since then it has evolved in to so much more. She loves to teach a variety of classes that leave students feeling calm and empowered. Her classes are aimed at creating a beautiful dance between breath and movement.

Yogastrology®

Mary Beth Bender is an E-RYT 500 through the Nosara Yoga Institute in Costa Rica. She is also a certified inspired Yogastrology© teacher and a professional astrologer. She has been practicing both yoga and astrology for over 20 years and is passionate about blending the two ancient practices.

Kris Brooks is a Baptiste Yoga trained teacher that leads her students through empowering classes that are filled with fun and inspiration. Kris specializes in athletic yoga and mobility enhancement working with professional athletes and teams from NASCAR and the Charlotte Checkers. She also specializes in yoga for recovery, working with students in the mental health and addiction community of Charlotte.

Slackline Yoga

Slackline Yoga, or YogaSlacking, is a type of slacklining which emphasizes static postures, transitions, and control of the line and your body. YogaSlacking is usually practiced on a garden line, a line is which is short and close to the ground, offering a safe place to gain new skills. Through the YogaSlackers' progressive method, students get the tools they need to develop a slackline practice that includes our five main modalities: kneeling, standing, sitting, arm balances and inversions.
Besides yoga and slacklining for fun, Alli loves to travel and volunteer. Currently, Alli is in school to become a physician in North Carolina. Her personal favorite styles of medicine to nourish her body and mind are connecting with others, staying active, being playful, and spending time in the outdoors. She cannot wait to teach you how to slackline!

Aerial Yoga

Aerial yoga is more than yoga or aerial acrobatics; this hybrid training implements the best of both worlds. Aerial yoga is unique in that it is adaptable for various ability levels. While suspended from a fabric swing at a safe height, you will explore grounded, inverted, flying and floating exercises.
Jenny has been teaching yoga for over ten years. She holds 200 and 500 hour RYS certifications that she has acquired from places all over the world like Rishikesh, India and Secona, AZ.

All Levels Flow Yoga

If you've never been to a Vinyasa class before, this style is designed to revitalize and restore your body, calm the mind, increase energy, and reduce stress. This is an excellent class style for students who would like to experience play and exploration. Great for all levels of yoga experience. Vinyasa yoga links breath with movement. Move or “flow” from one pose to another in sequence, on an inhale or an exhale. This class mixes vinyasa flow with deeper stretch postures. Tons of fun to be had!
Sydney Duarte is an E-RYT 300. She approaches health and wellness with playfulness and a sense of humor that encourages all personalities to the mat. Always inviting you to build awareness, embrace individuality and connect to the community around you. Her style is for students who would like to experience play, strength and exploration. Ayurveda 101- The Science of Living in Balance with Nature

Food itself is the building blocks that create the raw materials which give our bodies life. Ayurveda demonstrates that food is not the enemy, but can actually be medicine. Ayurveda combines the pillars of yoga and nutrition, physical strength, mental flexibility, emotional wellness and spirituality.
From a very young age, Victoria was coined the ‘chubby girl.’ After years of intense diets and putting in long hours in the gym, she looked for a healthier way to maintain a good balance and become the woman and mother she knew she could be. Her soul searching lead her to take the 200HR YTT from the World Renowned Yoga Center, Laughing Lotus NYC, directed by Dana Trixie Flynn where Victoria was introduced to Ayurveda. Today, Victoria’s life's mission and passion is to share these ancient practices and sciences with her students and to empower them to gain optimal health and well-being.

Thai Massage

Thai massage is an art of movement through assisted stretches. The sessions are one on one and each series of movements helps lengthen and alleviate the stress put on the recipient's joints and muscles. It is a fun way to get to know your body, a challenge to honor your breath, and has someone to literal hold you accountable through each movement. Thai Massage requires individual registration.
Thai Yoga Massage Therapist Gao Yang (rhymes with "oww") is licensed through the North Carolina Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy. She is a Holy Yoga certified instructor at 225 hours. She has trained and received a Masters level certification at SVG Thai Massage Training Center in Chiang Mai, Thailand. She has also studied at UNC-Charlotte, completing her Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, focusing in applied wellness and nutrition of the body.

Soul Yoga

This expression of Soul Flow Yoga will bring together the physical practice of yoga. It will connect the body and breathe into a moving symphony that brings clarity, focus, and joy into the present moment. Soul Flow will bring you into movements that are encouraged by the flow of the music and inspire you to merge with your truth in the present moment.
Justine is a 300 Hour RYT, 200 Hour E-RYT, and holds a Masters in Exercise Science. She completed her 200 Hour Certification at Savannah Yoga Center and 300 Hour Certification at Laughing Lotus Yoga in NYC. Justine has been teaching Group Fitness classes for 17 years, but began teaching yoga in 2008.

Maricel is a graphic designer by trade and a yogini by heart. Her yoga journey started several years ago after she attended her first class with her sister. Since then, yoga has become a part of Maricel’s life and she considers the practice a daily ritual. Maricel completed a 240-hour teacher training program in Huntersville and is Yoga Alliance E-RYT 200 hour certified. Maricel also holds certifications in Reiki and StandUp Paddle & Yoga.

Kids Yoga

Hula Hooping

Hula class is an interactive way to let loose and exercise all while having a great time. Even if it’s your first time trying hula, it’s a refreshing, lively activity that anyone can learn to do.
Lizz Baxter developed a serious interest in yoga upon returning home from the Army in 2004. After months of carrying over 60 pounds of military gear she discovered her body, mind, and soul needed relief. She began practicing Bikram Yoga consistently in 2005 and later ventured out to discover other styles of yoga through the encouragement and guidance of her teacher Theresa Murphy.

Deep Stretch Yoga

Deep Stretch is an active stretching class that targets primary muscle groups surrounding the hips, hamstrings and upper back. Tight muscles can cause imbalance and pull the body out of alignment. This class begins with warm-up movements to build heat and prepare the muscles to for stretching. Most poses are done on the floor and held for 1-2 minutes.
Lydia Martin, a South Carolina native and former dancer, began her yoga journey in 2013. Wanting to deepen her practice and share her love for yoga with others, she enrolled in the Samdhaana Yoga Institute's 200 hour teacher training in 2016 and began teaching immediately after graduation in April 2017.

Missy began practicing yoga to aid the aches and pains brought on by weightlifting in college cheerleading. When her athletic focus shifted, she began teaching a variety of fitness classes at Appalachian State University, including yoga.

Yin and Yang Yoga

Just as in every aspect of life we require a balance of yin and yang, in our yoga practice we need a balance of movement and stillness; invigoration and detoxification; power and restoration. This class will honor this Daoist philosophy and give you a full practice of beginner-advanced vinyasa flow with longer yin holds.
With over 15 years practicing yoga and 3 years practicing Chinese Medicine, Kelly is a firm believer that awareness is the most valuable resource. Her passion for psychology and musculoskeletal anatomy has led her to be an avid explorer in the field of natural health.

The Language of Yoga

Marcy Braverman Goldstein, Ph.D. received doctoral training at University of California, Santa Barbara and in India. She has taught at UNC Charlotte, Davidson College, and The Stan Greenspon Center for Peace and Social Justice. As the founder of Sanskrit Revolution, Marcy teaches Sanskrit, yogic speech, history, and philosophy at studios and festivals nationally. Power Flow Yoga

A fitness-based approach to Vinyasa style flow. Students will focus on linking conscious breath with a vigorous and mindful flow. Students will build strength, flexibility and concentration while cleansing the body and calming the mind. You can expect a great cardiovascular and strength building workout combined with breath work.
Danielle began practicing yoga in 2002 in an effort to quit smoking, but it wasn’t until after the birth of her second child in 2011 that she began to take her practice seriously and grow it into a lifestyle. She received her 200 hour yoga teacher training in November of 2013 as well as her aerial yoga teacher training in October of 2015. Danielle teaches vinyasa style yoga as well as power, hot, deep stretch, slow flow, kids yoga and aerial yoga.

Inversion Yoga

Doga (Dog Yoga)

Doga, aka Dog + Yoga is the practice of yoga with your pup. Through acts of dog training, human yoga, meditation, gentle massage, and stretching, Doga practitioners seek to achieve a positive attachment and a greater harmony with their dogs. Benefits of doga include: building a stronger bond with your dog and your dog becoming more calm and relaxed.
Lauren’s initial spark to begin teaching came after noticing a shift within herself. The yogic path became her vehicle to live mindfully, strengthen her body, and release what no longer served her. She is a certified yoga teacher in Hatha yoga. Since 2014, she has been teaching deep stretch, power vinyasa flow, and prenatal yoga. She received her 200-hour certification (2014) in Charlotte, NC under Ken Heptig of Goal Yoga, and her 300-hour training in Rishikesh, India (2017) under Krishna Sikwahl of Samatva Yogalaya.

Meditate and Move

How to Make Your Own Kombucha

Foam rolling is a practice of releasing myofascial tension that develops over time during simple day-to-day activities, overwork, and more intense traumas. Learn the Do’s and Don’ts of foam rolling in a 1 hour workshop where we’ll explore musculoskeletal anatomy and different techniques for releasing pain.
With over 15 years practicing yoga and 3 years practicing Chinese Medicine, Kelly is a firm believer that awareness is the most valuable resource. Her passion for psychology and musculoskeletal anatomy has led her to be an avid explorer in the field of natural health.

Hula Hooping

Hula class is an interactive way to let loose and exercise all while having a great time. Even if it’s your first time trying hula, it’s a refreshing, lively activity that anyone can learn to do.
Alexandra Meier was born and raised in Rochester, NY and moved to Charlotte, NC in 2010 to finish her degree. After becoming a high school teacher, she became very involved with the yoga community and earned her 200-hour yoga teacher training through Okra Charlotte. Her passion for hula hooping began as a fun hobby then progressed into teaching children lessons in an after school program.

Chillax Yoga

Nalicia was a dancer since childhood and eventually stopped but still felt the need to move her body, and began to move intuitively - combining her dance knowledge and stretching to move slowly and mindfully. Then one day discovered what she was taken to her first yoga class and fell in love. She has now been practicing yoga for nearly ten years. Her style flows from pose to pose focusing on alignment and keeping a playful heart.

Sunset Vinyasa Flow Yoga

From a very young age, Victoria was coined the ‘chubby girl.’ After years of intense diets and putting in long hours in the gym, she looked for a healthier way to maintain a good balance and become the woman and mother she knew she could be. Her soul searching lead her to take the 200HR YTT from the World Renowned Yoga Center, Laughing Lotus NYC, directed by Dana Trixie Flynn where Victoria was introduced to Ayurveda. Today, Victoria’s life's mission and passion is to share these ancient practices and sciences with her students and to empower them to gain optimal health and well-being.

Acro Yoga

Acro Yoga is a partner based practice that incorporates elements of Acrobatics, Yoga and and Healing Arts. Acro teaches communication, trust, strength, confidence and community all wrapped up in a fun, full body workout. Acro yoga will begin with body position vocabulary and move into Acro basics such as Crow, Side Crow, Chin Stand, Forearm Head Stand, Forearm Stand, Tri-pod Head Stand, and Hand Stands.
Jason Kierce has been an avid yoga practitioner for about 16 years. Yoga is a huge part of his daily life. Jason graduated Yoga Teacher Training at Y2 Yoga in May of ’15 and soon after founded Charlotte Acronuts. Jason’s passion for yoga allows him to teach and practice 5-6 times per week and host Acro Yoga Jams 1-2 times per week. Sydney Duarte is an E-RYT 300. She approaches health and wellness with playfulness and a sense of humor that encourages all personalities to the mat. Always inviting you to build awareness, embrace individuality and connect to the community around you. Her style is for students who would like to experience play, strength and exploration. Linking breath with movement, from one pose to another, mixing vinyasa flow with deeper, restorative stretch postures. She encourages others to live, dance, breathe with awareness while opening up to the relationship between physical body awareness, internal reflection and the free-flow energy in that moment of balance on our mats. She is here to help you ENJOY the journey.
