Catawba River Races

Choose your craft. The second annual Catawba River Races will feature three divisions: Open water swim, kayak, and stand-up paddleboard. Each race will take off separately, with the open water swim following a 1.25 mile course, and the kayaks and SUP’s following a 4 mile or 2.5 mile course.

Event Details:

  • Date – Saturday, June 29, 2019
  • Distances:
    • Open Water Swim – 1.25 Miles
      • Each swimmer must provide their own safety personnel (kayak, paddle & PFD will be provided for safety person).  This person will serve as a safety escort for the swimmer throughout the duration of the Open Water Swim race. Swim caps are required and will be provided during packet-pickup.
    • Competitive Kayak – 4 Miles
      • Paddlers can utilize their personal kayaks or use one of the USNWC’s sit on top kayaks (limited kayaks available)
    • Recreational Kayak-  2.5 Miles
      • USWNC sit on top kayaks must be used for this race (limited kayaks available)
    • Competitive Stand-Up Paddleboard – 4 Miles
      • Paddlers can utilize their personal race board and PFD or use one of the USNWC’s boards and PFDs (limited SUPs available)
    • Recreational Stand-Up Paddleboard- 2.5 Miles
      • USWNC rental boards must be used for this race (limited SUPs available)
  • Start Times:
    • Open Water Swim Division – 7:30am
    • Kayak Division – 9:30am
    • Stand-Up Paddleboard Division – 10:30am

Registration:

  • Pre-Registration – Must register before June 27
    • $35 per race
  • Race-Day Registration – if available
    • $42 per race
  • Recover Brands race shirts are only guaranteed to those who pre-register before June 24

  • Waiver Policy
    • All participants must sign the USNWC waiver before participating
  • Refund and Transfer Policy
    • Race Registration is non-refundable
    • A 100% registration transfer must be requested 2 months (or more) in advance of race day via racedirector@usnwc.org
    • A 50% registration transfer must be requested 1 month (or more) in advance of race day via racedirector@usnwc.org
    • Registration transfers are only applicable to the same race the following year
  • Forgotten Add-On Gear
    • All purchased add-on gear must be collected during packet pick-up
    • Items will not be shipped
    • If items are unable to be picked up during packet pick-up, you must arrange pick-up with racedirector@usnwc.org and collect from Outfitters within one week from event date
    • The race director will not email you to arrange your pick-up
    • All unclaimed items will be donated
    • Typical parking fees apply
  • Forgotten Awards
    • Participants not present for awards may collect their award from Outfitters within two months of the race date
    • Items will not be shipped

  • Trail Safety
    • Trails will be open to other runners, hikers and bikers
    • Headphones, iPods, MP3 players, etc are strongly discouraged
    • Remain attentive and courteous at all times
    • No pets allowed on the course
  • Race Bibs
    • Race bib must be visible and worn on the front of shirt to receive an accurate time
  • Aid Stations
    • See Course Map for water/electrolyte stop locations
    • Plan accordingly if you think you may require additional hydration during race
  • Weather Policy
    • Event will proceed rain or shine unless conditions are deemed unsafe by the Race Director. Any changes will be communicated via email by the Race Director
  • Parking Policy
    • All guests are required to pay a $6 parking fee at the USNWC unless guest has an annual parking pass. Annual parking passes are available through the USNWC for $50
  • Emergency Policy
    • The USNWC does not conduct trail rescues in the event of an emergency. Participants must call 911 if emergency vehicles and operations are needed. There are 911 trail location markers to communicate where emergency personnel can find you
