Intro to Kayaking Package

The Intro to Kayaking Package is the most flexible way to enter the sport of whitewater kayaking. Consisting of five 1.5 hour lessons, participants begin with the Intro to Kayaking lesson where they will establish a solid foundation of fundamentals before progressing to the Kayak Roll lesson and three one-on-one private lessons. Completing the Intro to Kayaking Package will prepare students for paddling both at the USNWC and on introductory natural rivers. If you’ve already completed the Intro to Kayaking Lesson, simply upgrade to the full Intro to Kayaking Package and still receive the package discount.

Two-Day Kayaking – 101

Kayaking 101 is ideal for participants who are ready to give whitewater kayaking a try over the course of two full days. This group course is designed to equip first-time paddlers with the knowledge and skills necessary for success in a variety of river environments by focusing on core fundamentals and their application to all whitewater situations.

Two-Day Kayaking – 201

Kayaking 201 picks up where the Kayaking 101 class/Intro to Kayaking Package leaves off and helps students take the next step in their progression. Students will spend significant time in class II+ whitewater honing the skills introduced in their previous course while also continuing to develop a reliable roll.

Instructor ratio: 3 students to 1 instructor

Skill prerequisites: Two-Day Kayaking – 101, Intro to Kayaking Package, or equivalent (experience in at least class II whitewater and a flatwater roll)

Five-Day Intro to Kayaking

Designed to introduce participants to whitewater kayaking and then quickly develop their skills, the 5-Day Intro to Kayaking class is the most comprehensive way to enter the sport of whitewater kayaking. Each day participants will build upon the previous day’s lessons as they learn to read water, ferry, catch eddies, roll, and more. To cap off the week, participants will have the opportunity to apply their new skills on one of several natural rivers in North Carolina. The 5-Day Intro to Kayaking class will prepare participants to be competent paddlers in up to class III whitewater.

Two-Day Kayaking – 301

Kayaking 301 builds upon the Kayaking 201 class and cements your skills as a class III paddler. During this course students will be introduced to advanced river-running techniques, surfing, and basic swift water rescue.

Skill prerequisites: Two-Day Kayaking – 201, or equivalent (proficient class II-II+ kayaking skills and a flatwater roll)
