Questions / Comments

  1. Keith Whipple January 13, 2013 at 8:35 am

What is the minimum age allowed for competition as I do not see it listed?

    • USNWC January 16, 2013 at 12:41 pm

Hi Keith, technically we have no age minimum for participation in the XTERRA but all athletes must be able to complete the course in the allotted time frame (8am-11:30am). XTERRA Point Series points will only be given to athletes ages 15 and over.

  2. Todd Coates January 16, 2013 at 11:06 pm

Is there going to be any relay options for this event? Also, is there a map of the course posted anywhere? Thanks!

    • USNWC January 21, 2013 at 11:17 am

Hi Todd, the course map will be posted soon. There will not be a relay option for this particular race.

  3. Kelly January 23, 2013 at 11:44 am

I see the run portion is on the trails… Is the bike portion mountain bike or road? Thanks!!

    • USNWC January 23, 2013 at 1:46 pm

Hi Kelly, the bike portion will be mountain bike on the trails.

  4. Alex January 27, 2013 at 9:30 pm

Why isn’t there a clydesdale category?

    • USNWC January 31, 2013 at 10:48 am

Hi Alex, based on past registration numbers, we’ve decided to move away from the Clydesdale and Athena categories for this event.

  5. John January 29, 2013 at 11:14 am

Two questions…if I have the AllSports pass, can I use one of USNWC’s mountain bikes? Secondly, does the bike portion include your “black” and “blue” trails or is it all “green”?

    • USNWC January 31, 2013 at 10:55 am

Hey John, all participants must bring their own bike for the XTERRA Whitewater Triathlon. The bike course will include green, blue and black trails.

  6. Doug February 4, 2013 at 4:58 pm

Will the bike and run course be only open to participants during the event (ie closed to the public to ease trail congestion)?

    • USNWC February 6, 2013 at 1:01 pm

Hi Doug, our trail system is multi-use for mountain biking, hiking and trail running. Regardless of our ongoing races, we keep the trails open to the public.

  7. Jason February 28, 2013 at 4:34 pm

Will shoes used in the middle of the swim leg be available for the run transition?

    • USNWC March 1, 2013 at 1:09 pm

Hi Jason, shoes will not be available after the swim portion of the race. Participants typically bring a second pair of shoes for this.

  8. Saul LeBlanc March 15, 2013 at 11:50 pm

Is it a mass swim start or a age group staggered start.

    • USNWC March 25, 2013 at 9:15 am

Hi Saul, this will be a mass swim start.

  9. Rahela March 27, 2013 at 11:30 am

What are the distances of each leg?

  10. Michael April 17, 2013 at 11:00 pm

The maps are listed in the order Bike, Run, Swim, but the event page and a typical tri would be Swim, Bike, Run… which one is correct?

    • USNWC May 16, 2013 at 4:08 pm

Hi Michael, this will be a traditional Swim, Bike, Run ordered triathlon.

  11. Jay April 23, 2013 at 2:57 pm

Is it typically a wetsuit swim?

    • USNWC May 16, 2013 at 4:09 pm

Hi Jay, the water temperature in July typically do not require wetsuits.

  12. jim herman April 24, 2013 at 6:10 am

What is the normal water temp?

    • USNWC May 16, 2013 at 4:11 pm

Hi Jim, the water temperature of the Catawba River in July is typically above 72 degrees.

  13. Chrissy DuBose May 14, 2013 at 1:12 pm

New to Charlotte from FL and looking for good tris. Is the bike portion here very “technical” or could an average skilled person with a moutain bike make it through?

    • USNWC May 14, 2013 at 2:27 pm

Hi Chrissy, the bike portion of the XTERRA Whitewater Triathlon will cover a mix of our novice, intermediate and advanced mountain biking trails.

  14. tiffany May 15, 2013 at 11:33 pm

Can you tell me if I am understanding the Swim Course Map correctly. It says we do an 800m swim, then run a short distance and then swim again for 200m. If that is correct what do people do for shoes in-between swim #1 and #2?

    • USNWC May 16, 2013 at 4:07 pm

Hi Tiffany, we encourage athletes to bring a second set of shoes that can be used for the trail portion between the two swim lengths. There will be a shoe-drop zone before the second leg. These shoes will be transported to the transition zone.
