Amphibious Duathlon

Run. Paddle. Run again. It’s that simple at the 3rd annual Amphibious Duathlon, a one-of-a-kind race taking place that combines running and flatwater kayaking at the USNWC. The race will feature two 5K trail runs surrounding a 2K flatwater paddle on the Catawba River around Sadler Island.

Sit on top flatwater kayaks will be provided for registrants. Participants are allowed to bring their own self-propelled water craft (kayaks, SUPs, etc.), but they are responsible for transportation and securing the water craft at the flatwater dock.

Event Details:

  • Date – Saturday, August 8, 2015 and Sunday August 9, 2015
  • Distance – 5K run, 2K paddle (flatwater), 5K run
  • Time – 8:00 a.m.
    • Course closes at 10:00 a.m.

  • *Note: Recover brands race shirts are only guaranteed to those who pre-register by August 2

Friday, August 7

  • 5:00-7:00pm – Packet pick-up at TrySports
  • *Note: This packet pick-up is for registrants signed up for both Saturday and Sunday
  • *Note: We highly encourage pre-registered runners to participate in the early packet pick-up to decrease race day lines
  • *Note: “Race Day Registration” will be available during packet pick up

Saturday, August 8

  • 7:00am – Race day registration and packet pick-up begins
  • 7:45am – Race day registration and packet pick-up ends
  • 8:00am – Amphibious Duathlon begins
  • Time TBD – Awards ceremony
  • 10:00am – Course closes (participants may finish the course however official times may not be recorded)

Sunday, August 9

  • 7:00am – Race day registration and packet pick-up begins

Post-Race:

Be sure to stick around for food, drinks, beer from NoDa Brewing Co. (Saturday Only) raffle prizes and awards.

Awards will be given to the top three male/female finishers in 4 various age categories determined closer to race day.

Additional Event Info:

  • All participants must sign the USNWC waiver before participating
  • Registration is non-refundable and non-transferable
  • There will be a gear/bag drop at the start/finish for this race
  • All participants are required to wear a headlamp until the sun rises (projected 7:30 a.m.)
  • Race bib must be visible and worn on the front of shirt/shorts to receive an accurate time
  • See Course Map for aid station locations
  • Participants must be present to accept awards. Awards will not be mailed
  • Locker rooms and shower facilities are located at the main USNWC River Center
  • Event will proceed rain or shine unless conditions are deemed unsafe by the Race Director
  • All guests are required to pay a $5 parking fee at the USNWC unless guest has an annual parking pass. Annual parking passes are available through the USNWC for $40
  • Headphones, iPods, MP3 players, etc are discouraged for the safety of all participants
  • Remain attentive and courteous at all times, trails will be open to other runners, hikers and bikers
  • No pets allowed on the course
  • The USNWC does not conduct trail rescues in the event of an emergency. Participants are encouraged to call 911 THEN notify event staff if an emergency is encountered
