Interested in taking your climbing skills to the next level? Our professional climbing guides at the USNWC offer group and private instruction to enhance your belaying skills, climbing movements and technique. All equipment needed for the class is provided by the USNWC. Participants are welcome to bring their own if preferred.
Belay Class
Learn the basics of climbing in this introductory class. Participants will learn the proper gear needed for climbing, how to minimize risk, basic climbing terminology, basic climbing etiquette and USNWC policies, and the proper belay technique. Upon completion of the course, participants will be required to take the Belay Test, which results in belay qualification. Once qualified, participants will have more access to climbing areas as well as access to roped climbs and auto belays.

Merit Badge Class
Earn your climbing merit badge for the Boy Scouts of America in this class. Participants will learn the basics of climbing including gear descriptions, belaying, rappelling, knot-tying and basic climbing terminology. We recommend that participants practice knot-tying before coming to the class in order to save time. Knots include the figure eight follow through, figure eight on a bight and the fisherman’s knot.

Lead Climbing: Level 1
This class is the perfect way to take your climbing skills to the next level. Our professional climbing instructors will teach you the basics of lead climbing, including proper gear, climbing, clipping, falling and safety.

Lead Climbing: Level 2
Continue your lessons in lead climbing with our Lead Climbing Level 2 class. In this class, participants will learn about proper belaying, catching falls, safety, and communication with the climber. After completing both the Lead Climbing Level 1 and 2 classes, participants will take the Lead Test, which requires a partner. Upon passing the test, personal equipment is required to lead climb.

Climbing Movement and Technique
For qualified climbers, this class offers lessons on becoming an efficient climber. The topics covered in this class include efficiency of movement, proper footwork, types of holds and how to recognize and try various climbing routes.
Private Instruction
Improve your climbing abilities with a one-on-one lesson from a professional USNWC guide. During your private lesson, instruction will be based on the participant’s skill level.
