USNWC Swiftwater Rescue Refresher

This refresher course is a one-day, eight hour course that focuses on your needs. From a general swiftwater rescue overview to a day primarily focused on swiftwater rescue scenarios. We will work to provide the class for which you are looking.

Minimum gear requirements:

  • Dress appropriately for weather (drysuit, wetsuit, etc.)
  • Helmet (lightweight water or kayak helmet)
  • PFD (USCG Type III or V)
  • Shoes (thick-soled water booties or tennis shoes)
  • Throw bag
  • Two locking carabineers

Prerequisites:

  • Basic swimming ability
  • In good physical shape
  • Must complete a minimum of 1 swiftwater rescue course within the past 3 years

Course availability:

USNWC Swiftwater Rescue Refresher and Intro to Paddle Boat Operator Course

This two-day course includes the one-day Swiftwater Rescue Focus and the one-day Intro to Paddle Boat Operator Course.

  • Helmet (lightweight water or kayak helmet)
  • PFD (USCG Type III or V)
  • Shoes (thick-soled water booties or tennis shoes)
  • Throw bag

USNWC Night Operations Course

90% of flood rescues happen at night. This intensive one-day, overnight course takes the fundamentals you learned in our USNWC SWR I & II and expands on them in the most practical way, by exposing you to low and no-light rescues. This course will begin in the classroom, then move to the river to begin applying different applications to nighttime scenarios.

Course content includes:

  • Safety concerns of night rescues
  • Formal ICS set up for night operations
  • Proper equipment needed for night time rescues
  • Scenarios using simple, commonly used swiftwater applications (ropes, live bait, swims)
  • Scenarios using complex rescue systems with rafts and rope systems

Minimum gear requirements:

  • Dress appropriately for weather (dry suit, wetsuit, etc.)
  • Waterproof headlamp
  • Helmet (lightweight water or kayak helmet)
  • PFD (USCG Type III or V)
  • Closed toed shoes (thick-soled water booties or tennis shoes)
  • Throw bag
  • Two locking carabineers
  • Any additional rigging gear your team would like to use (not required)

Prerequisites:

  • Must have completed the USNWC SWR I and II (or equivalent) within the last 2 years
  • Basic swimming ability
  • In good physical shape
