Frigid 5K Run & Plunge
Event Overview:
Brave the cold of February on a 5K run that covers the length of the Whitewater Center Parkway, followed by an optional (but highly encouraged) cold water plunge into the man-made river. Bring your towel and friends to keep you warm post-plunge.

Disclaimer: Due to the weather and technical errors, we were unable to capture some of the racers’ times during the Frigid 5K Run & Plunge. In response, we utilized our manual timing system to capture the remainder of the chip times, resulting in some inaccuracies. As we prepare for the remainder of the 2013 Whitewater Race Series, we will work to improve the accuracy of the timing system.

- 8:45am – Course Closes
Post Race:
After your plunge, warm up with music, food, drinks, raffle prizes and awards.

Will be given to the top 3 finishers in the following 12 categories
- Male/Female 25 and under
- Male/Female 26-30
- Male/Female 31-35
- Male/Female 36-40
- Male/Female 41-45
- Male/Female 46 and better

Additional Event Info:
- Race giveaways are only guaranteed to those who pre-register.
- All participants must sign the USNWC waiver before participating.
- Participants must be present to accept awards. Awards will not be mailed.
- Race bib must be visible and worn on the front of shirt to receive an accurate time.
- Participants must bring ID to consume alcohol during post-race.
- Locker rooms are located at the main USNWC River Center.
- Registration is non-refundable and non-transferable.
- Event will proceed rain or shine unless conditions are deemed unsafe by the Race Director.
- All guests are required to pay a $5 parking fee at the USNWC unless guest has an annual parking pass. Annual parking passes are available through the USNWC for $40.
- Headphones, iPods, MP3 players, etc are discouraged for the safety of all participants.
- Remain attentive and courteous at all times, trails will be open to other runners, hikers and bikers.
- No pets allowed on the course.
- The USNWC does not conduct trail rescues in the event of an emergency. Participants are encouraged to call 911 THEN notify event staff if an emergency is encountered.
i just signed up for the Frigid 5K Run & Plunge and i didn’t see any place that talked about shirt sizes. Are there going to be event shirts given out? I love the USNWC very much and have wanted to run a 5K out there for a long time and would love to have a shirt to commemorate my first 5K at the USNWC.
Hi Mark, we will be giving out running gloves instead of a shirt for this race.
Which company is keeping track of the times for the participants.
Hi Christian, the USNWC will be timing this race with a MyLaps BibTag system.
Are jogging strollers allowed at your races?
Hi Melissa, we don’t allow jogging strollers for our trail races. For the Frigid 5K, the race will take place on our parkway but know that there will be steps to climb at the end of the race.
can i bring my RV so i can bring my entire family?
Hi Travis, you are more than welcome to bring your RV with your family. Parking for RVs is $15 at the gate.
Can you create a 0-14 age division? Also, what if its warm on that day like today…will you be mad at your marketing person?

I signed up online for my daughter and me. I don’t recall receiving a confirmation and wondered if we will need something more than an I. D. to get into the event.

Is parking included with the purchase of a race ticket?
Hi Elena, parking is not included with your purchase of a race ticket. Parking is $5 at the entrance.
My mom wants to do this, too, but she will not be running the entire 5K. Is it a go-at-your-own-pace type of event?

Can we pick up our packets prior to race day?
Hi Phil, race packets are only available on race day.
How is pre-registration going? I am thinking of doing this race, but didn’t want to show up and there be like, 12 people running it!
Hi Jon, we have a few hundred people signed up to do the Frigid 5K Run & Plunge so you will have plenty of company!
Will shirts be available for purchase after the event?
Hi Jennifer, all pre-registered participants will receive a pair of running gloves as a race giveaway. The Outfitter’s Store will be open post-race for purchase of other USNWC apparel.
No dogs, even though this is a road race?
Hi Ashley, we don’t allow any pets on the race course.
hey….thanks for putting this event together. i have been looking at the weather and frigid would be a good word to use for race day. For those brave souls commited to the plunge afterward, will there be any areas to get warmed back up? or should we be prepared to b-line to the lockers rooms with dry clothes?

Hi Sean, we recommend you bring a towel and a change of clothes to warm up post-race. We will also have hot chocolate and a NoDa Brewing Cold Crash winter ale for race participants.

I would really like to sign up for this race. Is there currently any other way to do it other than morning of the race? I’m not super concerned with race swag or the up-charge, but I would like to save everybody a little time and energy on race day if I could.

Hi Cory, pre-registration is no longer available for the Frigid 5K Run & Plunge. We will have race day registration from 7 a.m. – 7:45 a.m. on Saturday morning. Hope to see you then!
since the race will be held on the parkway to the USNWC, will the USNWC still be accessible via the parkway during the race or will it be shutdown once the race begins?
Hi Alex, the outbound lane of the USNWC parkway will be closed from 8 a.m. until 8:45 a.m. but the inbound lane will be open during the race.
When/where will the results from the Frigid Run and Plunge race be posted?
