CHARLOTTE, NC – December 12, 2012 – The U.S. National Whitewater Center (USNWC) will host the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials for Canoe Slalom and the 2012 Canadian Olympic Trials on April 12 – 14, 2012. The three-day competition also features live music and a fireworks display on Saturday night. The competition and festival will be free and open to the public.

This Saint Patrick’s Day celebration will feature live music from Larry Keel and Natural Bridge and Chatham County Line and a PowerBall Race. The largest man-made whitewater river in the world will run green at 1 p.m. The Green River Revival is free and open to the public.

The U.S. National Whitewater Center Turns Its Whitewater Blood Red

Red River Resurrection ThumbnailCHARLOTTE, North Carolina – October 5, 2011– The U.S. National Whitewater Center (USNWC) will turn its whitewater river “blood red” on Saturday, October 29 at 1 p.m. to celebrate the Halloween weekend. The Red River Resurrection will mark the second “coloring” of the whitewater river at the USNWC, the first of which was part of the Green River Revival. In addition to the red river, festivities will include, live music, extended pass activity hours, an oyster roast, a cornhole tournament and costume contests. The Red River Resurrection is free and open to the public.

Operation Adrenaline Rush Comes to the U.S. National Whitewater Center

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina – September 27, 2011– The U.S. National Whitewater Center (USNWC) will open its doors to over 400 Marines participating in Operation Adrenaline Rush (OAR). Modeled after the Army’s “Warrior Adventure Quest,” OAR is designed for Marines returning from deployments to spend a day away, bonding with their platoons and small-unit leadership over a variety of extreme sports or outdoor excursions.

Coca-Cola 4th of July Festival – Three Days of Free Music, Fireworks and Freedom

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina – May 25, 2011 – The U.S. National Whitewater Center (USNWC) announces the 2011 Coca-Cola 4th of July Festival. The free celebration will include three consecutive days of live music and three nights of fireworks beginning Saturday, July 2 and concluding Monday, July 4. The music will begin each day at 4 p.m. and the fireworks will launch at nightfall (approximately 9:30 p.m.).

U.S. National Whitewater Center to open Charlotte’s first canopy tour

U.S. National Whitewater Center Canopy Tour LogoCHARLOTTE, North Carolina – March 29, 2011 – Opening April 13, the Canopy Tour will be the newest way to experience the USNWC. A form of ecotourism that is growing in popularity, the Canopy Tour is a 4 hour, guided experience through the trees along the Catawba River and portions of the Historic Tuckaseegee Ford and Trail.

Participants travel through the tree canopy moving through 14 different tree platforms on a series of zips, bridges, rappels and other high adventure challenges. The tour reaches heights in excess of 60 feet in the hardwood trees that lace a 90 foot deep canyon before working its way through a wetlands delta and then proceeding along the banks of the Catawba River. The Canopy Tour will cost $89 per person and is Charlotte’s first and only canopy tour.

Announcing the USA Canoe/Kayak National Team Trials

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina – February 22, 2011 – The U.S. National Whitewater Center, will host the USA Canoe/Kayak National Team Trials on April 15 – 17. Olympic hopefuls will battle for a spot on the U.S. National Team in preparation for the 2012 Olympic Trials and the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

The Team Trails is part of the Spring Festival at the USNWC.

The U.S. National Whitewater Center Turns its Whitewater River Green for St. Patty’s Celebration

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina – February 23, 2011– The U.S. National Whitewater Center (USNWC) will “Go Green” as it turns its whitewater river green on Saturday, March 12, 2011 in honor of Saint Patrick’s Day. Charlotte will join a short list of cities that can claim to have dyed a body of water green, and the only city to have ever dyed a whitewater river, in celebration of the Emerald Isle’s most famous holiday. Because the Green River Revival is the first ever “greening” of a whitewater river it places the USNWC and Charlotte in a class of its own as it comes to St. Patty’s day celebrations. The largest man-made whitewater river in the world will flow green at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 12. The Green River Revival is a free event.

USNWC to hire seasonal, part-time and full-time employees

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina – February 18, 2010– The U.S. National Whitewater Center (USNWC) is hiring for the 2011 season. With several new activities coming online in 2011, the USNWC is recruiting hundreds of seasonal, part-time and full time employees. Employees will be hired to fill positions in guest services, as activity guides (raft guide candidates must have completed Raft Guide School at the USNWC), as team building and high ropes course facilitators, as food and beverage staff and in team leader and management positions.
