Canopy Tour Mission

The U.S. National Whitewater Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to building stronger communities by promoting active lifestyles, developing environmental stewardship and encouraging family and civic interaction.

To further its mission and to continually find ways for people to connect with the outdoors, the USNWC opened the Canopy Tour in the spring of 2011. The Canopy Tour is a guided excursion through the tree canopy along the scenic Catawba River and its surrounding environment. By getting people outside and into the trees, the tour brings groups together to experience the natural landscape from a different perspective.

We hope that the Canopy Tour surprises you as much as it did us, as to what you can discover about yourself and the environment, simply by spending the afternoon in the trees.

Canopy Tour Design and Construction

Challenge Towers ThumbnailThe Canopy Tour was built by Challenge Towers, a division of Blue Ridge Learning Centers, Inc. Founded in Todd, North Carolina, these industry vanguards designed the Canopy Tour with a focus on the longstanding tradition of North Carolina craftsmanship. By using locally sourced hardwood and sustainable construction processes the Canopy Tour was handcrafted to blend into and enhance its environment, rather than diminish the forest canopy. Their special vision for this project was born from a shared passion for innovative design and construction, safety and a drive to create unique outdoor experiences.
