Amphibious Duathlon

Run, paddle and run again during the 2nd annual Amphibious Duathlon, a unique race taking place on Saturday and Sunday, August 2-3. The race will feature two 5K trail runs surrounding a 2K flatwater paddle on the Catawba River around Sadler Island.

*Note: Sit on top flatwater kayaks will be provided for registrants. Participants are allowed to bring their own self propelled water craft (kayaks, SUPs, etc) however they are responsible for transportation and securing the water craft at the flatwater dock.

Event Details:
  • Date – Saturday, August 2 and Sunday, August 3
  • Distance – Run: 5K, Flatwater paddle: 2K, Run: 5K
  • Time – 8:00 a.m.

Registration for either day:
  • $42 – Pre-registration through July 31 (Saturday, August 2 sold out)
  • $50 – Race day registration (if available)
  • *Note: Recover race shirts are only guaranteed to those who pre-register by July 23.

  • 7:00 a.m. – Race day registration and packet pick-up begins
  • 7:45 a.m. – Race day registration and packet pick-up ends
  • 8:00 a.m. – Amphibious Duathlon begins

  • 10:00 a.m. – Course closes (participants may finish the course however official times may not be recorded)

Awards:

Mountain Khakis gift cards be given out on both days to the top 3 Male/Female finishers in 4 unique age categories that will be determined based on equal age groups from registration information.

  • Saturday – Female: 27 & under, 28-34, 35-42, 43 & better – Male: 29 & under, 30-35, 36-42, 43 & better
  • Sunday – Female: 25 & under, 26-33, 34-39, 40 & better – Male: 24 & under, 25-34, 35-40, 41 & better

Additional Event Info:
  • Recover race shirts are only guaranteed to those who register by July 23
  • All participants must sign the USNWC waiver before participating
  • Participants must be present to accept awards. Awards will not be mailed
  • Race bib must be visible and worn on the front of shirt to receive an accurate time
  • Participants must bring ID to consume alcohol during post-race
  • See Course Map for water stop locations
  • Locker rooms are located at the main USNWC River Center
  • Registration is non-refundable and non-transferable
  • There will be no gear/bag check at the start/transition/finish for this race
  • Event will proceed rain or shine unless conditions are deemed unsafe by the Race Director
  • All guests are required to pay a $5 parking fee at the USNWC unless guest has an annual parking pass. Annual parking passes are available through the USNWC for $40
  • Headphones, iPods, MP3 players, etc are discouraged for the safety of all participants
  • Remain attentive and courteous at all times, trails will be open to other runners, hikers and bikers
  • No pets allowed on the course
  • The USNWC does not conduct trail rescues in the event of an emergency. Participants are encouraged to call 911 THEN notify event staff if an emergency is encountered
